It is spring time in the land, but the high reaches are still covered in snow and freezing temperatures. Wind driven snow blows between the peaks while a small party make their way on foot as they ascend towards one of the mountain passes. There are but four of them but they seem as surefooted as the mountain goats they resemble, they need to be since a flush of warmth the week before left a layer of refrozen snow across just about everything. Trudging along in single file with the lead one cutting out steps they slowly wind their way upwards and onwards with occasional glances towards the second in line,

A lean shadow hugged the underside of a cliff-ledge overlooking Jorund’s Folly, an abandoned mining site. Poor old Jorund had according to local lore found a small vein of silver ore here and in hopes of finding the mother lode he’d poured his fortune into it, but the silver had eluded him and he’d supposedly died a pauper. But that was now several centuries in the past and no one now living in the area had actually known the poor soul. In the afternoon sun many a shadow could be found in the gorge, but only one of them was alive.
